So today i'm bringing you a...
This is set up by the wonderful Janie over at Bookworms Buddy, and Janelle at MrsJRodsReads. This really fun-to-do segment is basically, as the name implies, a talk each tuesday about a book-related topic.
And this week's topic is:
Which do you prefer? Stand-alones, series, trilogies, etc?
This for me depends on the genre. A Paranormal YA Fiction cannot, I repeat CANNOT, be a standalone. Paranormal YA 9 times out of 10 has to be a series, there is too much information for one book. With that in mind, I love investing myself into series as long as they aren't ridiculous and 12-15 books long!
As for Contemporaries, they can be standalone or a series. I prefer them as standalone but in the case of the If I Stay duology by Gayle Forman, I'll make an exception. I think the whole point of contemporary books is to be a light-hearted short, romance filled book. Also, I don't like to read about the real world for too long...
Which brings me to Fantasy. Fantasy HAS to be a series because, like with Paranormal YA, there is just too much information to fit into one book. Plus, imagine Game of Thrones without the other books...WTF?!
Overall, I love the investment you have to make when reading a series and I think that way, the characters become part of your life. However, depending on your mood, light-hearted contemporaries are a brilliant release from too much high Fantasy and Fiction.
That's it for this week's Tuesday Talks, but tune in next week for another topic discussion.
Let me know in the comments what your preference is?
