"Penelope never dreamed she’d become a superhuman experiment masquerading as a puppet. She never dreamed everything would be taken from her; even her ability to lie. Nor did she ever dream that she would become something so unreal.
Penelope lives in a world of advanced technology. Marionettes have advanced in the form of robots; lifelike creations remote controlled to perform super human tasks. When Penelope makes a deal with Jed, a marionette-obsessed scientist, she doesn’t fully realize what she’s getting herself into. In order for Jed to take her away from the orphanage she lives in, she must first agree to undergo his experiments and tests, ultimately creating something no one ever dreamed possible; the first living marionette.
As Jed shows off his scientific creation to the world, concerns arise surrounding Penelope’s abilities and what she’s capable of doing. Ordered to somehow lessen her abilities, Jed makes a desperate attempt to change Penelope to make her more human, more vulnerable. After Penelope lies to the officials about her past, Jed makes sure it’s the last one she’ll ever utter. The truth is now the only thing she is capable of telling.
As Penelope struggles with her past, her disturbingly new present, and her uncertain future, she is thrust into a magically twisted world of mayhem in search of the one thing she wants, but knows she can never have. The chance to be just a girl again. To be normal. To be real. "

REVIEW TIME

Here was my initial review on goodreads:

First off, HAVE YOU SEEN THAT COVER?! It's effing beautiful.

Characters:
I absolutely loved Penelope for the simple reason that she is not your usual main female character. She is kickass! She knows wrong from right and doesn't forgive at the drop of a hat like most characters would. I feel as though she is out of place in the family unit and knows it from the very beginning. The way she is treated isn't necessarily bad at first, just kind of isolated. Her voice in this book is seriously bang on a 16 year old girl. There's ups and down, naivety, trust, love and so much more.

Let's move onto James. I found James unusual at first and couldn't figure him out. His and Penelope's friendship and character development is unbelievable. James goes from one extreme to the other and I actually really like him for it! I definitely grew attached to him despite the twists and turns.

Jed is a right piece of work. I just can't even write about him without spoiling you all, so go read this book right now, OKAY?!

Plot:
This is going to be so hard to write about the plot without spoiling you all, because TWISTS AND TURNS does not even come near to describing this book. I have whiplash from the amount of times you're like 'what the hell?' whilst reading it. This is of course, in a good way.
I feel so sorry for Penelope, she just gets shit on by everyone. I don't blame her for her actions, doing things she'll regret and being angry. Wouldn't you be too if you were made into someone's science experiment?
The outcome of this book really is one that you don't figure out or even get a hint about during the book. It's a sweet ending and a great way to round up the story. I really wish to read another story set in this World, get working on it Pauline!

Overall feelings:

My overall feelings after reading this book are...
"Beautiful writing and an unusual, imaginative World"
I received an e-copy of this beautiful book for review and honestly what a World! The idea behind this retelling of Pinocchio is truly terrifying but in the same way, so imaginative. I want to read more of this beautiful writing and this World.
